NAILED’s Rick Klaras reviews Lanterns by Son Lux by responding to individual songs in the form of poetry.

Son Lux made Joyful Noise called Lanterns. It impressed me thus, +:

Alternate World

Alights like
a flock of water birds in a desert
and then golden skeleton keys
and the voice
a windowpane gale
of simmering black ache

Handclaps
Zoomed-in
Ovation tics

The bass
has a gun in its waistband
is ducking behind the corners
of an untended garden

A swelling epiphany
chokes down temporal drag

Lost It to Trying

Is the specter of a hotel air-conditioner
surprised to find its oxidized and humid tines
choking up An Eye For Optical Theory

Then windstorm
spiraling autumn around you
hints:
It is better to close your eyes for this
Try to remember

+ + +

Easy

Wheezes
and tiptoes
highjacks you into reverence

Staggers fatherless
the sharpness All The Way Up
Predicts your future
and exits the taxicab

An unexpected door knock
throws its shoes in the dryer
so you know it’s come home

Enough of Our Machines

Is automaton hanging laundry
‘til battery dies
savoring the voltage-starve
Colors CMYK

Posthumously parts itself out

Yes, you do need to hear it. Listen to the whole album here.
